It’s time for fashion shows again — so it’s time for me to tell you what’s good and what is just fail.  Honorable mention in New York Fashion Week at this point goes to Y-3.  London fashion is the best, but I also think that Yoji Yamamoto should come live in London. I liked these things. (Olwyn)

Fashion isn’t fun unless it’s extreme. Who wants to open a magazine and see what you SHOULD wear tomorrow, or worse, what you wore yesterday?  The masters of macabre, Vivienne Westwood, John Galliano, Alexander McQueen– these are the ideas people who make you want to incorporate different moods and ideas into your look. These are the visionaries that allow you to express yourself with as much fervor as you can muster. Think about it, and maybe wear your clothes from the inside out tomorrow.

(I love how she calls these clothes ready-to-wear and not couture. This woman is bad!)

I hate heels. I think they just don’t suit me at all, they are way too girly and they hurt your feet. What if you get cold or you step on something disgusting? A nice little pump isn’t going to protect you against that!!

Instead, I prefer boots, because they are so much more interesting. They give your style some contrast and they draw the eye up and then downwards. It’s always cool to see a girl in a frilly dress and then some really cool boots.  Unlike manybloggers,  I’m not going to waste my time showing you 1000 pound shoes that you can’t afford even though they’d look great with whatever. Here are some boots I found that are of all different lenths  and they have good prices too.

<—-  These boots from asos.com are so unexpected, the long cuff would look good with a little sundress, or you could play with hemlines and wear it with a long skirt. if you go to asos.com, they’re the ash eden long suede cuff heeled boots for 220 pounds.

…I have these boots, and thats why I included them. I wear them with … everything. They’re Limited Edition Round Toe Buckle Boots.  They’re the most comfortable boots, or shoes, I have bought in a long time.  40 pounds at Marks & Spencer. (pic: marksandspencer.com)

These ones had to grow on me.  They’re chunky ankle boots from New Look that cost 50 pounds. I think they would look good in the winter time  with like a corduroy jacket  and some wide lege or boot cut trousers. Can you dig it? Hope you can.  (pic: newlook.co.uk)   ———————————->

I saw the coolest woman walking through Camden, a neighborhood where I hang out a lot, yesterday. She was too far away for me to ask exactly what she was wearing (believe me, I would have!) but I’ve tried to recreate the look in Polyvore and post it here.

I’ve recreated the outfit using:

White Annona Blouse by Malene Birger

Black Kung-Fu Low Crotch Trousers by Vivienne Westwood Anglo

Women’s Vintage Studded Skinny Hip Belt from lpcollection.com

Proenza Schouler Medium Suede PS1 Satchel

Robert Lee Morris for Elizabeth and James Freeform Dish Ring

Opening Ceremony Strappy Flats

Sail away, sail away, sail away… in resort wear for 2010. The REAL fashionistas are getting geared up for this time next year, so let’s look at some of the hilights straight off the catwalks of dear old London town!

Cutouts @ Christopher Kane
Christopher Kane was inspired by nature in these easy-to wear baby-doll dresses and soft biker jackets. BUT! These are no flowers– Kate was inspired by nuclear explosions from 1950s bomb tests. That adds a kick to your look, doesn’t it?!

Sweet and Sour Cherry @ Richard Nicoll
In his latest collection, Richard Nicoll mixes the influences of Tahitian women and Spanish royal regalia– the result is stunningly high/low, with all the benefits that come along with it. These clothes are comfortable and opulent, easy and well-worked. Who else can mix a sarong with red lips and white heels? Superb.

Hard vs Soft @ Emanuel Ungaro

Esteban Cortazar does it again! He hits the mark of mixing and matching to get a signature “trashy” look, while still keeping the Emanuel Ungaro pinstripes and lace. You can kick back or kick it off wearing these looks.

Resort collections are all about holiday– wearability, travel and fun. These resort pieces really encompass the London look: Stand Out, Express Yourself and Be You! Even if you’re away on holiday, you can still ooze London if you wear Christopher Kane, Emanuel Ungaro or Richard Nicoll.

Wimbledon Fashion- Who do we love? And who is out?

Along with Glasto, Wimbledon is a British institution we can depend on, year in year out. Come rain or shine, fans and players alike will flock to the green green grass and watch balls going back and forth for hours over a net(funny how people are easily amused by balls!) The Pimms and the strawberries will come out as well as the umbrellas…usually! But not this year as Wimbledon has aquired a roof! A roof! To protect everyone from the inevitable Wimbledon rain! And of course this year it has decided not to rain. Typical. But don’t let the lack of British downpour put you off from watching. Yeah the tennis is quite good but I find Wimbledon fashion much more entertaining! There are many hilarious and (sometimes) sylish outfits on show! Fans wearing bizarre head gear seem to have mistaken Wimbledon for Ascot?! Then there’s the players themselves. Pioneering tennis fashionistas or fashionisteblahs? Roger Federer came on court and gave us a slinky striptease! Going from white military jacket to James Bond waistcoat and suit trousers to gold trimmed shorts!!!  Maria Sharapova also went for the military style jacket and then took it off to reveal a bodycon inspired tennis dress.  At least they’re on trend. Whether they pull it off or not, I’ll let you decide! I think someone who definitely should have left the fashion to the experts was Serena Williams. She was wearing a very short white trench which barely covered her frilly skirt. Unflattering and just yuck! Thank goodness she’s better at tennis than at dressing!!!

John Peel Tshirt at Glasto!

It’s nice to see that for once Glastonbury wasn’t only about the mud and the great bands. Not only was it mainly sunny and hot but Glasto also had an ethical, charitable edge to it. That’s because this year was about one of Glastonbury’s legends, John Peel, and a charity he had long supported during his life, Shelter. The radio 1 presenter had been a regular for many years at the festival and when he died, one of the stages was actually renamed after him. The John Peel stage was born reaffirming his status of ‘legend’.  And it seems his legacy lives on. At Glasto 2009, John Peel was once again in company of the hot new talents and famous rock stars as he appeared on a tshirt many of them were wearing. The charity tshirt in question has a  reworked portrait by Simon Danby of John Peel with the slogan ‘Great band…Great session…’ which comes in turquoise, grey and pink! The tshirts were created through the collaboration of Komodo, an ethical fashion brand, the John Peel stage at Glasto and Shelter, the charity for the homeless. Now that’s what we like! Ethical rock fashion with a story and a good cause! All for £25 (and remember, 20% of that goes to Shelter!). Buy one at komodo.co.uk or roughtrade.com.

see you later — olwyn
